The European Fertilizer Manufacturers Association, Fertilizers Europe (FE), has recently published a press release emphasizing that agriculture and food have been recognized as strategic sectors for Europe within the framework of a forum called “Strategic Dialogue on the Future of Agriculture”. This forum, created by the European Commission (EC) and in which 27 experts have participated, has recently delivered a final report of conclusions to the President of the EC, Von der Leyen, in which she calls for the development of a comprehensive strategic framework to support the sustainable production and use of fertilizers.

Leo Alders, FE President, who has also participated in the group, lists three main points where the fertilizer industry needs greater support from European politicians:

- Investment in the production of low-carbon fertilizers.

- Creating a market for low-carbon nutrients.

- Incentives for farmers who use sustainable practices that allow them to combine high yields and low nutrient losses.
